A coming of age story in a world of witches. Sixteen year old Nathan grows up with his mother's family. His mother was a very powerful white witch at the time of her death. His father however is a very powerful black witch. While being closely watched by the witches counsel Nathan has to keep his black witch half suppressed. At the age of 17 he is gifted 3 witch gifts by a family member. Nathan is separated from his family and begins a quest to find his father, the truth of who and what he is, and the gifts he needs to become a full witch. This book is a great beginning to a series. It tells you about the back story and what put Nathan  in the cage that we find him in at the beginning of the story. It's a  story for any age. I enjoyed reading this story and can't wait for the next book.
