EXCERPTS (Please choose only ONE to use with your post):

Excerpt One:

A SEASON OF MIRACLES:

John Oldham now sat in a straight-backed chair near the fire. She sat in the rocker opposite him and felt herself nodding until he spoke her name.

Jerking back to full alertness, she gave him a worried look. "Sir, is anything—?"

"I didn't mean to startle you, Mrs. Ross. It's just that we need to talk about sleeping arrangements. And please, could you dispense with calling me sir?"

"Oh, forgive me, Lieutenant Oldham. I—"

"No, I meant you should call me John."

"Very well, Sir – uh – John, if that is what you prefer,"

"It is, and may I call you by your given name as well?

Caroline looked at her hands resting in her lap. She knew this would not be proper, but then having the man sleeping in her house wasn't proper either. "Yes, of course. Please do."

"Thank you, Caroline."

The way he said her name as he looked at her caused color to rise in her cheeks.

Excerpt Two:

AT FIRST SNOWFALL

"Adelaide, you are just going to have to trust Prince Jayce," Mauricio interjected. "We don't have time to talk this one over. On the first day of the snowfall, Prince Jayce saw Xiomara in the midst of the chaos, which now we know is the day the Daemons are unleashed," Mauricio continued.

"When do you expect the first snowfall?" Mara asked. "Will we have enough time to get an army together to fight these things?"

"We have a week," Jayce said. "Unlike the human realm, weather is predictable here."

"My birthday..." she murmured before she looked at them, each in turn. "Chaos would be unleashed on my birthday? Christmas!" Mara shook her head as if she couldn't take anymore. "I don't want to hear this. Not yet... not now... Just...just stop talking about me and what I need to do." She started ahead of them as if she wanted to be as far away from them as possible.

Excerpt Three:

MR. CHRISTMAS ELF

The bus slid up to the stop near the coffee shop. I hustled out the door and rushed toward the store, noticing a guy reading the letters to Santa in the window. There were five minutes 'til opening. I didn't want to disappoint Joe again by being late, so I broke into a trot – and slipped on a hunk of ice. The sidewalk was coming up fast, but I fell into the arms of the letter reader.

He smiled one of the most adorable smiles I've ever seen and a cute little dimple popped out in his cheek. "You smell like peppermint," he said.

I opened my mouth, stammered like an idiot, and shut up. Mr. Dimple held me close. I didn't want to move. He owned a very solid body, with unkempt, curly, sandy blond hair that covered his ears and ice blue eyes that pierced my soul. I melted like a snowman in June.

"I'm Elvis."

"Hi, Elvis." I managed to squeak.

He chuckled and helped me to firm footing on the ground. "And you are?"

"Julie Erwin, but everyone calls me Jules."

"So, you're the one with the depressing Christmas list."

Excerpt Four:

ALL THAT YOU HAVE IS YOUR SOUL

Grace croaked in a deep voice, not her voice, but Teddy's. She couldn't believe this was happening. Then she frowned. What exactly was happening?

Teddy's mother slipped in and shut the door behind her. She pulled the computer chair from the desk in the corner, moved it in front of Grace, and sat down. She took notice of how much Teddy looked like his mother. The same hair color, the same kind eyes...

"What is happening?" Grace asked.

"What do you mean, dear?" Lucy asked as if she didn't understand the question and why would she. She didn't know...

"I did this already," Grace told her. "I've already met my soulmate. Teddy can't be my soulmate. People don't get two in a lifetime." Though, her heart pounded in her chest with hope. No, Teddy's heart. She could feel Teddy's heart.

Excerpt Five:

CHRISTMAS TEARS

A wide grin spread across Noelle's face. "Juice for the kids and coffee sounds... Utterly amazing—" Nick turned to face her as she spoke and, for the first time, she saw him clearly without shadows or his scarf in the way.

Tall, dark, and handsome was an understatement here. She knew he was tall, but he seemed taller still as she gazed up into a pair of blue eyes set in a firm chinned, drop-dead gorgeous face. The only thing missing to make him nearer her perfect dream man would be... "The mustache..." she whispered, without conscious thought.

Nick arched a dark eyebrow. "How did you know about the mustache? I shaved it off a few weeks ago. Wanted to try something different, I guess, but I miss it more than I thought I would."

Noelle felt a blush creep up her face. "Sorry, I just thought... Well, I... I'll go wash up now." She hurried down the hall before she embarrassed herself any more.

Nick smiled at her oddly when she returned and started to say something, but the kids came bounding down the stairs and saved her just in time. They sat around Nick's kitchen table eating sausage biscuits and potato cakes while Nick and Kenny talked about everything from school to police cars to the run- ins he had with Mr. Rossi before they were kicked out.

Excerpt Six:

ROOM AT THE INN

A warm hand brushed the gown away from her shoulder. Helena closed her eyes as his lips moved across her flesh toward the tender skin of her neck. She arched in delight and cried out his name once more.

"Helena? Helena?" James' voice, full of concern, filled her ears as the tender scene dissolved before her opening eyes. His disheveled face appeared. The hint of an evening shadow darkened his cheeks, his mussed hair dipped over those expressive grey eyes that were so kind yesterday, but now appeared filled with worry.

"Um," she blinked and gathered her thoughts. "I'm fine." Pushing to sit up, her hand brushed against his arm. She looked down, disappointed to find flannel instead of skin. "I was having a dream," she whispered.

"You were calling out my name."

"I-I was?" She looked around and realized to her chagrin there was no canopy bed, no comforters, nothing to remind her of the pleasant dream.

"I hope it was a good dream," he grinned and stood. "You had me a bit worried it was a nightmare."

Excerpt Seven:

BLAME THE MISTLETOE

"I like tiramisu," Cal said. "Do you know how to make that?"

"Yes," Libby said. "It's really easy." She handed the big wooden spoon to a man standing at the other stove. "I'm going to give you a list and I need you to buy these things on the way home, along with Christmas decorations and a tree. A real tree, not one of those fake ones."

Cal turned toward Tasha, terror striking him. "Um...tonight?"

Tasha laughed. "We'll handle the groceries, and you take care of the tree and the decorations. Go to the lot near the hospital for the tree and just pick out something small that'll fit into your car. Then go to the Christmas Hangout for the decorations. Lights, balls, tinsel, and a star for the top. Oh, and you'll need something to put the tree into. We'll have dinner ready by about seven- thirty at my place."

"Wouldn't this be better for Saturday?" he asked.

Libby put her hands on her hips. "Do you work on Saturday?"

"Well, yes, but—"

"No. Tonight it is."
